What is WIC?
WIC is a federally funded program that provides healthy foods, information on healthy eating, breastfeeding support, and referrals to other health care and social services.
Pregnant women, new moms, infant and children under the age of 5 who live in Washington County can apply for these services.

What services does Maryland WIC provide?
Healthy Foods
If you are eligible, you will be given electronic benefits to buy foods such as:
- whole grain bread, tortillas, brown rice and whole wheat pasta
- fruits and vegetables
- dried canned beans and peas
- peanut butter
- cereal, milk and 100% juice
- eggs, cheese and yogurt
- baby food and baby cereal
- infant formula
You may only buy foods that are listed in the Maryland WIC Authorized Foods List:

WIC has a Registered Dietitian on staff who can help you with concerns/medical issues that may affect how you eat.

Breastfeeding Support
The Washington County WIC Program offers a peer counselor and breastfeeding coordinator for individual and phone consults. All services are free to WIC participants.
The program provides a wide range of support, from answers to breastfeeding questions or concerns to one-on-one lactation help.
During FY24, about 39% of WIC participants were breastfeeding in some capacity.

Who is WIC for?
WIC is for you if…

- New mom (up to six months after delivery)

What to Bring
You will need to bring each person who is applying for benefits to this first appointment, including infants and all children up to age five. In preparation for your appointment, please bring the following items:
Proof of Household Income (Bring at least ONE)
- Recent pay stubs, or benefit letter: SSI, Social Security, Unemployment
- Medical Assistance card
- Independence Card with register receipt (30 days)
- Tax Return
Person(s) being certified AND Proof of Identity
(Bring ONE below for EACH Person)
- Birth Certificate
- Driver’s License or MVA identification
- Social Security Card
- Picture Identification (Government, School, Employment)
Proof of your PHYSICAL address (Bring ONE)
- Driver’s License or MVA Identification
- Official Bill or Statement
- Copy of Lease

Shopping for WIC Foods
- Remember to only buy foods that are on the WIC Authorized Foods List
- Only shop at WIC approved grocery stores

I lost my eWIC card
- Please call 1-844-309-6097 to request a new card.
- Your new card will be mailed to you (it may take 5-7 days for your card to arrive in the mail).
- Please make sure to tell the WIC office if you move so your card gets mailed to the right place.

Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g. Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the Agency (State or local) where they applied for benefits. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English.
To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, (AD-3027) found online here, and at any USDA office, or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form.
